REEIS Performance Filters - Proper Filter Grill Sizing

HVAC Tips & Tricks

Just admit it, you don't change your AC filter every month. I own an air conditioning company and I forget sometimes. But the reality is, changing your AC filter is the single most important thing you can do for your family's comfort, health, and for your wallet.

There are three key important benefits to a good quality air conditioner filter.

  1. Air flow. Your air conditioning system delivers its cooling capacity through airflow. When you don't change your filters regularly or if you are using 1” filters, you starve your air conditioner of the air flow it needs to cool your home. You're probably losing 25 to 40% of your AC's cooling capacity right now.
  2. Air Conditioner System Cleanliness. Dirt is the enemy of heating and air conditioning systems. Your Air Conditioner has several key components which, when dirty, their performance degrades. First is your blower wheel. Your blower wheel moves the air through your air conditioning system to deliver its heating or cooling capacity. When your air flow is reduced, your system loses its capacity to keep your home comfortable efficiently. A 1/10 of an inch of duct will reduce the air flow of your air conditions air flow by more than 20%. The second important element of your air conditioner which needs to remain clean is your evaporator coil. The evaporator coil is the component which captures the heat out of the air to create cold. When the coil is dirty, the heat exchange is less efficient. Dirty coils also reduce air flow. Dirty in your air conditioner will not only result in poor performance but you will most likely result in costly repairs and premature failure.
  3. Health – Indoor Air Quality – Your family’s health is important to you. Clean air is important to your family’s health. The largest filter in your home is your lungs. By properly filtering your air, you create a clean indoor air environment. A quality air conditioning system filter will remove dust, dirt, allergens, pet dander, hair, bacteria, and viruses.

Not all filters are the same. At REEIS, we inform our customers that the worst filter they can buy is a 1” filter.  A 1” filter has a lot of negative attributes. 1” filters are:

  • highly restrictive reducing air flow
  • allow bypass dirt goes around the filter.
  • should be replaced every 1 month.
  • destroy your air conditioner’s performance.
  • result in higher energy bills
  • cause breakdowns and costly repairs. . . .as I write this, REEIS was just hired to replace a compressor on a 5-year-old system because they didn’t change their filters. Compressors cost $4,000 - $7,500 to replace.

With this in mind, we at REEIS partnered up with a filter manufacturer to build the REEIS Performance Filter. Our filter is designed to perform better than a 1” filter. Quite a bit better.

Here are the characteristics of the REEIS Performance Filter which makes it such a better product than a 1” filter.

  • Large format improves air flow
  • Anti-bypass gasket – no dirt can go around the filter like a 1”.
  • Replace every 4 - 6 months.
  • MERV 11 particulate capture dust, pollen, dander, pet hair, etc.
  • MERV 13 option also captures bacteria & viruses.
  • Cleans air of allergens
  • Clean air w/ improved A/C performance
  • 5X the surface area of a 1" filter - surface area is everything when it comes to a filter.

REEIS Performance Filters can be purchased one at a time or on a membership where we deliver your filters every 4 or 6 months. If you pair the REEIS Performance Filter membership with our REEIS Comfort Club maintenance membership, we will install the filters on your maintenance appointment. We also offer special trips for installation if you wish. Special installation trips are $79.95.  If you have a filter base or large format filter installed in your home currently, REEIS offers filter memberships for filter bases also.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is maintenance important for your air conditioning and heating system?

Regular air conditioning maintenance is essential to keep your HVAC system running efficiently, reliably, and cost-effectively. Scheduling REEIS Advanced A/C maintenance help prevent unexpected breakdowns, extend the lifespan of your unit, and improve energy efficiency, leading to lower utility bills.

Neglecting AC maintenance can result in higher energy consumption, expensive repairs, and poor cooling performance, especially during the hottest months. REEIS Advanced A/C maintenance include: condenser coil cleaning, checking refrigerant levels, testing electrical components, and airflow, ensuring your system performs at its best.

Schedule an Advanced A/C tune up with REEIS Air Conditioning to maximize comfort, minimize costs, and protect your investment in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Mesa, Tempe and surrounding areas.

What is considered an evidence based HVAC recommendation?

Every component of a HVAC recommendation should be supported by evidence. Evidence should come in the form of a reading, a picture or a technician physically showing you the condition or product they are recommending.

Most air conditioning companies, not REEIS, pay their technician with 100% commission. When a technician is paid only if they sell a product or service it can result in a technician recommending a product or service you may not need. It is always recommended that you request the technician provide you the evidence of the recommendation.

Do air conditioning system have parts which wear out?

Yes. Several air conditioning parts are wear out parts. Just like any car, there are several components which should be replaced as they are beyond their useful life. If you neglect the worn part replacement, larger, more expense repairs may result.

How long does a heating and air conditioning system typically last?

In our Phoenix's extreme climate, air conditioning systems typically have a 10 to 12 year lifespan. Well maintained systems can last significantly longer.

How often should I replace my air conditioning system's filters?

In Phoenix's heavy air conditioning use, most systems require filter changes a minimum of 30 days. Larger format filter such as the REEIS Performance Filters can last as long as 6 months.

If you do not change your filters regularly, you will restrict air flow and allow dirt to infiltrate your HVAC system. Dirt is the enemy of your heating and air conditioning system. If interior components get dirty, the performance of the system is significantly impacted. Interior components such as coils and blower wheels are expensive to clean.
