Frequently Asked Questions About HVAC & AC Repair

What is SEER rating?

The SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) is how the efficiency of your heating and cooling equipment is measured. The SEER is the amount of cooling your system will deliver per dollar spent on electricity, as compared to other systems. For example, a 3-ton unit may have a SEER efficiency rating of 13, 14, or 15. The higher the SEER the more efficient the system will be. The SEER rating of any given unit can range anywhere from 13 to 21.

What is the different between SEER & EER?

SEER measures the efficiency of the system over an entire cooling season, while EER measures the efficiency of the system at a specific temperature and humidity level. Consider both ratings when choosing a system for your home

Why should I have regular (or preventive) maintenance? and how often should I have it performed?

You wouldn't drive your car without changing your oil or replacing worn brake pads. If you did, you would experience costly repairs and breakdowns. It is not different with your air conditioning & heating system.

A spring air conditioning maintenance and a fall heating system maintenance is recommended

What should a quality maintenance program include?

Your air conditioning & heating system maintenance should included actual maintenance. Most low cost so called tune ups are just inspections performed by a sales person pretending to be a HVAC technician.

Proper maintenance should include a detailed assessment and testing of all the major components of the system. It should also include tightening, adjusting and cleaning several components.
