Frequently Asked Questions About HVAC & AC Repair

What is SEER2 rating?

The SEER2 (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) is how the efficiency of your heating and cooling equipment is measured. The SEER2 is the amount of cooling your system will deliver per dollar spent on electricity, as compared to other systems.

At REEIS, we sell systems ranging from 13.4 to +25 SEER2.

The original SEER rating system did not take into consideration the air flow of a system. SEER2 is a better, more reliable measurement which is more challenging to reach.

What is the different between SEER & EER?

SEER2 measures the efficiency of the system over an entire cooling season, while EER2 measures the efficiency of the system at a specific temperature and humidity level. Consider both ratings when choosing a system for your home

Why should I have regular (or preventive) maintenance? and how often should I have it performed?

You wouldn't drive your car without changing your oil or replacing worn brake pads. If you did, you would experience costly repairs and breakdowns. It is not different with your air conditioning & heating system.

A REEIS Advanced A/C Tune Up in the spring or Summer for your air conditioning maintenance and a fall heating system maintenance is recommended

What should a quality maintenance program include?

Your air conditioning & heating system maintenance should included actual maintenance. Most low cost so called tune ups are just inspections performed by a sales person pretending to be a HVAC technician.

Proper maintenance should include a detailed assessment and testing of all the major components of the system. It should also include tightening, adjusting and cleaning several components specifically the outdoor coil

What does it cost to troubleshoot my HVAC system if it broken?

For most systems, we charge $79.99 to evaluate your HVAC systems issues. In most cases, we credit the cost of the service call if you hire us to make the repair. In some cases, there is a requirement to charge additional time to further investigate the issue.

What are the advantages of a WIFI programmable thermostat?

Energy savings

  • Remote control allows users to lower energy consumption while they're away or sleeping.

Integration with other smart devices

  • Wi-Fi thermostats can integrate into a home's wireless network, allowing users to adjust temperatures, turn the system on and off, and view usage statistics using a smartphone or desktop app.
  • Email alerts Users can receive email alerts if the temperature changes unexpectedly or if the thermostat disconnects.
  • Multiple thermostats at multiple locationsSmart thermostats can be useful for managing multiple homes, ensuring that each property's heating system remains efficient.
  • Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning Smart home HVAC systems can adjust the heat, ventilation, and air conditioning based on user preferences.
  • Consistent temperature Programmable thermostats can help keep a home's temperature consistent throughout the year.
  • Remote access users can change the temperature remotely using their smartphone.
  • Learning routinesThermostats can learn user routines and notify them when a filter needs to be changed
What type of filter should I use?

Filters have two (2) functions

  1. Catch the dirt
  2. Allow air flow

Less restrictive or mesh type filters do not catch the dirt but they allow air flow.

High MERV filters catch the dirt that does not go around the filter but they dramatically reduce air flow and system performance.

What the correct answer? More surface area to catch the dirt but to not restrict air flow. REEIS built a 3" Performance Filter which catches dirt very well but allows better air flow.

Why can't I find the correct size filter at my local home improvement store for my equipment?

Just give us a call and we will help you purchase the filter you need. Many home improvement stores only carry 1" filters.

What does my warranty cover?

Manufacture's warranties typically cover parts and materials for a term of 5 to 12 years depending on the product and if it is registered with the manufacture. With all retrofit installation, REEIS manages the registration extension paperwork and stores the warranty documentation for our customers in their electronic account. Manufacture warranties do not cover labor, refrigerant or part procurement.

REEIS also adds a minimum of one (1) labor and refrigerant warranty and a two (2) year workmanship warranty. This is our minimum labor warranty with many products including a longer warranty. Our REEIS Adaptive Comfort Heat Pump product includes a 10 year all inclusive warranty.

What is the life expectancy of my unit?

Lorem Ipsumis simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining

When should I consider replacing my condenser fan motor?

Here are a few warning signs your air conditioner condensing fan motor is failing:

  • Your AC is running, but the air isn’t cold
  • The outdoor fan isn’t spinning
  • You hear unusual humming, grinding, or rattling noises
  • The system turns on and off more frequently than usual
  • Burning smells or overheating from the outdoor unit
  • There is oil dripping from your condenser fan motor bearing indicated failure is pending.
  • When you test the amp draw of the condensing fan motor, the fan is pulling more amps than the manufacturer’s specifications.   This typically means the motor is at risk of failure and it is consuming more electricity than it is designed to.
What is an air conditioner compressor start assist kit?

A compressor start assist is an electrical component designed to give your HVAC compressor an extra boost during startup. It consists of a start capacitor and a potential relay, which work together to momentarily provide additional power
to the compressor, helping it start more efficiently.

An A/C compressor start assist kit is a low cost option which improves your air conditioner or heat pumps energy efficiency, increases longevity, reduces noise and can prevent compressor failure.
